This International College is a well-established pre-university institute affiliated with a prestigious government high school in Jiangsu Province, China. The school is in the south of Changzhou City, 6 km away from the CBD. Changzhou city is in between two big cities Shanghai and Nanjing in eastern China and it has a population of 1.5 million. It is convenient for travel and welcomes foreigners. The school has been successfully delivering the South Australian Matriculation (SAM) Programme for more than four years and numerous Australian teachers live and work here each year.
In 2004, the school obtained authorization from the SACE Board of South Australia (formerly called the Senior Secondary Assessment Board of South Australia, SSABSA) to conduct the SAM Programme and its associated Bridging Programme. Approximately 300 Chinese students have graduated from the programme successfully since 2005. Students were well prepared and are now studying in internationally renowned universities worldwide. Currently, there are 110 students enrolled in the SAM Programme and 100 students in the Bridging Programme.

2. The Programme:
The SAM Program is administrated by the SACE Board of South Australia and offered to high schools in South Australia, Northern Territory, Malaysia and China. Students who complete this programme successfully are awarded the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE), enabling them to enter universities worldwide at an undergraduate level.
Students who complete Chinese Senior Middle Two are eligible to apply for admission to this International College. An entrance test is set to assess their English competence and successful students will join the ‘Bridging Programme’ for their first six months study. After the ‘Bridging Programme’, which is completed in January each year, students sit the SAM Programme Entrance Test. If accepted, they study five subjects until early November in that year. They will have final examinations conducted by SACE Board within the College and invigilated by SACE Board officers and graduate in December.
During the ‘Bridging Programme’, students focus on improving their English listening, reading, writing and speaking competence (General English Training) in the first two to three months. Subsequently, students study ‘English for Academic Purpose’ (EAP) and ‘International English Language Test System’ (IELTS) test preparation. Based on previous results, students will start in English level being equivalent to IELTS Band 3.5 to 4.0 and improve throughout the ‘Bridging Programme’ to IELTS Band 5.0 to 6.0. Also in this stage, the school needs English teaching assistants to help ESL Studies teachers in various ways, including:

In the ‘Bridging Programme’ stage, class sizes are approximately 20 to 25 students per class with 45 minutes per lesson. Teaching hours are a maximum of 22 per week per teacher, Monday to Friday.
